For five generations, the Gledhill family has been growing grapes in Australia. In keeping with the robust wines produced from the estate vineyard in Coomealla, this 2023 McLaren Vale Shiraz lives up to the house style of intense inky but vibrant colour, expressive aromas and bold flavours. Harvested from the Wood Vineyard on the elevated sandy soils of Blewett Springs, the fruit was split across two small open fermenters, one fully crushed and destemmed, while the other received 40% whole bunches. Each fermented with the Zevii hybrid yeast strain to enhance the red berry fruits and multiple hand plunges daily until pressing.
Pressed to french oak barrels to complete primary and malo-lactic fermentation followed by a further 15 months in oak to integrate aroma, flavour and balance.
The wine exhibits deep and vibrant purple hues, bright red berry and plum fruits, some sweet and cedar spice and a mocha finish filling the palate.
Balanced with a fine chalky tannin enhanced by the whole bunches, and a fresh acid drive with a long and persistent finish.
